Seay is an active performer and music educator. She holds her Master of Music degree in jazz performance from Manhattan School of Music as well as a Bachelor of Music in jazz studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Bachelor of Science in fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology from North Carolina State University, where she graduated as a Valedictorian of her class. During her time in graduate school, Lauren studied vocal jazz with Grammy-nominated vocalist Kate McGarry and double bass with Harvie S and Jay Anderson. In her home state of North Carolina, Lauren gained recognition for her eclectic musical style, her unique voice and her ability to play and sing simultaneously in the jazz idiom. She was lauded as a “revelation” in Triad City Beat for her vocal and bass performance in the 2015 Miles Davis Jazz Festival at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to her recent move to Atlanta, Lauren was an avid performer in the New York jazz scene and appeared at venues such as the legendary 55 Bar, Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cosmopolitan Club, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, Zinc Bar, Club Bonafide, Swing 46, Cornelia St. Café as well as other venues in the city. As the world faces environmental challenges in the present and future, Lauren is here to reassure the power of the individual to create a ripple effect in the world. While she believes in the need for systemic change, she presses forward strongly with the ideal that individuals must become the change they want to see.
